Corby resident Charlie Dawson of Kingswood Academy has been selected to join this years Frantic Ignition company following Taster and Trial sessions at The Core in September. The program culminates in a performance of Ignition 2016 tonight at Stratford Circus Arts Centre in London.
Ignition is a UK-wide project established by Frantic Assembly to give young men ages 16 to 20 new ways to get involved in the arts, by devising and performing highly physical pieces. 12 young men were chosen from trials across the UK to come together in London to work as a professional theatre company, learning new skills, creating original work and performing to a live audience. It is a unique opportunity to work with Frantic Assembly’s Artistic Director Scott Graham, who is from Corby originally, and company members, with rehearsals and the final performance taking place in London.
Commenting on the announcement Associate Director of Frantic Assembly Neil Bettles, who also originally comes from Corby and attended Kingswood Academy, said “For me Ignition is the highlight of my year at Frantic Assembly. This year 260 young men came through our trial sessions and to select 12 for the Ignition company 2016 was no easy task… Being from Corby myself I’m always rooting for the Corby boys who attend the trial. This year we were blown away by Charlie and I was thrilled when we selected him to be in the final 12.”
He also added “When I left Kingswood School to study drama at University in London I had no Idea it would lead the kind of work I am doing now. Frantic Assembly were the company who took me under their wing and gave me the opportunities that lead me to where I am now. Without Frantic I wouldn’t be working on west end shows and international tours. I hope that Ignition will be the start of a similar relationship for the new Ignition boys that I had with the company 12 years ago. It is a brilliant and inspiring project for everyone involved”.
